It is OK for truck air systems where the engine is running constantly delivering most of it’s power to moving the truck, AND the compressor head is cooled by the circulating engine coolant. The problem that I see is that compressing air takes energy, and if that energy is not used to do useful work, IT IS WASTED!! The common unloading scheme avoids that portion of wasted energy. And how hard is it on a compressor to unload and then pick up the load again???
