From energy consumption point of view ,electronic drain valves are better suited for condensation removal from air receivers. A capacitive sensor inside the drain valve controls the condensation discharge. Timer based condensation valves may drain the expensive compressed air also during draining, As an alternative Zero loss draining valves are also available in the market .

We found that in wet receiver installed between Compressor and Dryer maximum condensation took place, whereas in Dry dryer( installed after Dryer )less amount of water condensed. Moreover the compressed air temperature entering the plant was nearly same as the ambient temperature.

The one down side is needing to drain the receiver on a daily basis, but tht can easily be done with a timer and a valve. It does offer a very simple way to reduce the dryer load.
