How often is engineering even involved with the purchase of replacement items??
Of course, in this instance, with the long life of the original system, it is very likely that all of the engineering skill and talent had moved on.
And how often do we see, with the change of personnel l, that all of the old documentation is disposed of by those who believe that neatness trumps any possible value of knowledge?
